In the Garden

From Vine to Salad

For the second year, DH is growing tomatoes in hanging pots.  One pot holds a regular “Big Boy” and the other a patio plant.  The patio tomato is really compact while the other is growing long and leggy almost touching the ground.  Several “volunteer” plants have shot up in the flower gardens adding a little extra texture, color and big tomatoes.  One is so happy and healthy; it’s been staked and tied, but not satisfied, is spilling over into the driveway.  A bit of a challenge when you pull into the garage.  Harvest has started.  A little late, I know.  The neighbors have been bringing us tomatoes for weeks.  But you can’t rush nature.  They’re ready when they’re ready.  So . . .

. . . from "volunteer" vines . . .
. . . and hanging pots . . .
. . . to pasta salad.

Italian Rotini Salad

1/2 box cooked rotini pasta
2 cups steamed broccoli flowerets
1 cup chopped tomato
1 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 to 1 cup zesty Italian dressing
mozzarella cheese, cubed OR grated parmesan

LOVE pasta salad with fresh veggies!

100_2200The bowl is a special family favorite, over 50 years old — older than me.  🙂  The set of three mixing bowls were given to my mom when she set up housekeeping.  They’ve been used to serve up lots of potato, pasta and macaroni salads over the years.  My mom used to mix up a mean macaroni and cheese pasta salad in these bowls.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
