Winter Village Finish and TUSAL Update

Yesterday was the December new moon — time for the last Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long (TUSAL) update of 2010.

Not only is the TUSAL jar almost full, this month’s orts are overflowing the little cup.  It’s been a pretty productive month   🙂

There are threads from autumn pillow finishes, Winter Village (see below) and Sampler Winter (that’s almost ready to share).  And lots of yarn scraps from the 10 in 2010 shawl (finally back to work on this), Ulmus, the granny afghan squares and Grandma Twinkle garland have spilled over to the shelf.

Some of this year’s orts will fill a glass ornament for the tree, some will go out for the birds in the spring and the rest will stuff cross-stitch finishes.  Although YoYo @ Dragon My Needle (who started the group) has left blogging, I’m planning on continuing the TUSAL updates.  It’s a fun way to reflect each month on what’s been accomplished.

The December piece was a bit of a challenge.  With so much white, it took some pondering to find a way to separate the snowflakes, buildings and ground snow.  The snowflakes and ground snow were stitched with a blended needle of white and Kreinik filament.  I love the subtle sparkle.  Wish you could see it too, but no matter what I did it wouldn’t show in the pics.  Snowflake buttons were added at the corners to finish it off.  These monthly pieces have been such fun.

It snowed most of the weekend — 2-3 inches on the ground.  And it’s cold, cold, cold.  DH brought the Christmas tree up from the basement.  We hung a few pictures in T’s room and the guest/craft room.  And a did little online Christmas shopping.  How was your weekend?

Thanks for stopping by to check on me.  Your visits and comments are always appreciated.  Enjoy your week!

  1. Janet, that little village is so neat! My decorating is done, but I only have a small 4 ft. Christmas tree. However I put up lights in most of my windows and have icicle lights outside, and a horse and carriage that light up. They went up last weekend with the help of a new friend … 😉 I want to bake some raising filled cookies like my grandmother used to make. I just got a new fridge and range in my kitchen so I am eager to do them, but need to go buy the raisins!! WNY is getting snow bigtime near Buffalo, but I am north, and the snow is not quite as heavy here, thankfully.

Love reading your blog posts… keep it up! 🙂

  2. Love your little monthly cross stitched pieces. And what great ideas for the orts! I never thought of putting them into a ball for a tree ornament.
We watched football all weekend and I knitted (just about finished a fingerless mitt)

  3. It’s so nice that many are still keeping up with the TUSAL! I have not kept up with it in months!! Is Yoyo for sure no longer blogging? She has been MIA for far too long!

  4. We save ends for the nesting birds, too. Rob is making a hanger so I can put them in a tree for easy access.

I’m finishing up some ornaments I cross stitched a couple years ago. After the holidays I want to start a new piece.

Our snow is gone, but there are flakes in the air this morning.
