Although I’m tempted, it’s still a little early to do much more than make plans for our gardens. I’ve been looking through some catalogs and making a sketch or two in the journal.
Sunday was cool with lots of sunshine. ~J~ and I decided to take a trip to the Arboretum to see if there were any signs of spring. Most of the area was still brown and bare, with hints of green here and there. Some of the beds had been cleared and stood ready for new plants.
With or without flowers, it’s still a great place to walk. I’m looking forward to going back in a few weeks to see the changes.

Daffodils! They’re one of my favourite flowers – I’m really sad we don’t have any this year. 😦 I did a bit of knitting and sewing this weekend, but overall I’ve just been super lazy. Sometimes you need to do that to recharge your batteries!

Our daffodils are just a teeny bit ahead of yours, but your peonies look happier than ours do. We had a good weekend all in all, Sunday, especially when we visited the GK. Saturday was a bit sad with a memorial service for a friend’s 30 year old grandson.

My weekend was busy and I am paying the price for it today. I should get a snow day tomorrow and I plan on using it to get some rest. We have some budding daffodils too. I hope this cold and the expected snow doesn’t hurt the poor things.

I need to get started on the dead perennials. I keep saying I’ll cut them down in fall, then that I’ll do it before they sprout again, but it never happens….

I never get around to the fall garden chores either. I’d be happy to clean up now, but the plants need the extra blanket of leaves and sticks to stay warm. 🙂

Well at least there are signs of spring somewhere – here – where I am – there are too many heavy snowbanks, but at least some of the trees are showing slow signs of life – like the maples.
As for the goldfish – if this was a serious question Janet – then here is the answer: if the pond is deep enough, it will freeze – at the mid-to-upper levels, and then below, the water stays open – and the fish literally go into their version of hibernation – their metabolism slows right down, they conserve oxygen and energy – and live in a state of “suspension” as it were – until Spring arrives and they slowly begin to “revive from their sluggish state.”

We have daffodils and crocus flowering, I’me champing at the bit to get basil planted and some forget me not and lavender sown. I’m hoping for next weekend since it seems we have one more cold snap to deal with!

Q – All of our bulbs bloomed in Feb. 8-( Actually raining today which surprised me since the last week has been sunny. As we’re in a drought, we need the rain. Lovely pictures.

We’re had rain in the forecast all day but haven’t seen a drop so far. I’m sure it would help to green up the fields.
