Hooray for Friday! Most of the week has been sunny and extra warm and I’ve finally been able to block the latest FO shawl.
Pattern :: The Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief by Orange Flower Yarn
Yarn :: Gerschubie Fiber Arts Moderato, Uncle Billy colorway
Needle :: US 8 (5.0 mm) circular
This shawl was my hospital knitting project last week, cast on the day of ~J’s~ surgery and last bind off stitch seven days later. The pattern is simple, quick and keeps your interest.
Rather than a kerchief, I opted to add a repeat in order to make a larger shawl that will be perfect for cool autumn days. Gerschubie yarns are becoming favorites. I bought more at the fiber festival this spring. Moderato is a DK weight wool, very soft and squishy. I just love the color combinations and who wouldn’t be drawn to a colorway named Uncle Billy. I’m calling the shawl a win and looking forward to wrapping it around my shoulders this fall.

~J~ had a good report from the Doctor yesterday and we celebrated with our favorite Chinese takeout. One slice of his birthday cake remains. The robins and jays are having some sort of territorial/nesting squabble with lots of noisy chatter in the mornings. There may be a new robin’s nest under the deck but I haven’t been able to check. Another sunny day and the gardens are getting thirsty.

I’m glad to read your hubb is recovering very well and able to eat some good grub again. I would knit this pattern just because of YOUR FO. It is fabulous. I love its colorway; it like a Monet painting. We have a pair of squirrels that race along our fences chattering away like crazy. One of them is hefty.
Wanna hear a funny story? My dentist’s chihuahua mix goes bonkers when these squirrels tease him constantly from up above the redwood tree. They’re like Chip and Dale, full of mischief and race up along tree like a barber shop pole. Recently, they teased the dog and the dog ran to the back of the backyard, ran full speed at the tree, and jumped like a superhero. His nails dug into the soft bark and held there for a minute before crashing down onto the dirt. I was laughing like crazy and teared up when I heard this story last weekend.

I have such an image of the little pup stuck to the tree. Very brave! 🙂 Our dog had a love-hate relationship with the squirrels also. They chattered, she chased, they ran up the trees and she sat at the bottom daring them to try it again.

Lovely shawl. Glad your husband is recovering well. I need a hospital knit and have had this project in the wings for a long time. I just got some new yarn and I might just knit the shawl up in it. Thanks for the idea.
