FO Friday ~ Ombre Hats

I wrote this post in my head on Thursday, ready to draft Thursday night, polish Friday morning and post.  That was the plan.  So here it is Saturday afternoon  .  .  .  well, better late than never.

These hats were finished in August and as I was going through my Ravelry projects I realized I’d never done an FO post.    The pattern is The Easy Ombre Slouch Hat by Paul S Neary.  Quick and easy stranded knitting makes for a very nice ombre effect.

Yarns  ::  Rowan Felted Tweed, rage and clay colorways
Needle  ::  US 6 (4.0 mm)

The first hat finished used leftover yarns from leg warmers knit last year.  I don’t look great in hats, but this one fits a little loosely, has a nice slouch, is so-so-o-o soft AND matches my winter coat.  So it’s a WIN.  If I were to knit with DK weight yarn again, I would drop down a needle size for the ribbing and do the rest of the hat on the US 6.

Yarns  ::  Cascade 220 Superwash, charcoal
Unknown leftover (maybe Patons ?), light gray
Needles  ::  US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 6 (4.0 mm)

Keeping in mind the loose fit of the first hat, I picked two worsted leftovers and cast-on with US 4 needles.  After the ribbing I moved to a US 6 for the remainder.  I also started the decreases a bit sooner to reduce the slouch.  It’s perfect and tucked away in the holiday box.

Now that I’ve taken another look at these, I have an urge to rummage through the leftovers and make more for the holiday box.
