A Different Kind of Sock

T’s been home for the last three days.  The dig went well and he had good weather.  The flight home was very long.  We’ve had a great visit.  It never matters how long he’s here, it’s never long enough for mom  🙂

I had promised to make a lens sock for his new lens and started it soon after he left.  I went as far as I could and then had to wait until he returned to check the size.  It was a good thing I didn’t finish since it turned out to be way too small.  So a quick frog and a restart … and voila!

Lens Sock by Yuliana Ng
Lion Brand Microspun (Ebony & Lily White)
US size 7 & 8 DPNs
CO 6.27.10, BO 6.28.10

This is a really nice pattern and a free download from Ravelry.  Microfiber makes a soft, lint free fabric.  The sock is knitted with two strands.  I knit the first three rounds, added an eyelet round for a drawstring and then started the 1×1 rib.  The ribbing made for a good cushion.  The lining was knit a bit shorter with only one strand and sewn into the sock under the eyelet row.  Braided jewelry cord was used for the drawstring.

I just love this and T was pleased.  This pattern would make a good bag for anything that had a little weight and needed to be protected.

There’s another dishcloth on the needles.  I have to catch-up on blog reading that I’ve missed in the last three days.  And then I absolutely MUST get one of the shawls finished.  Busy week ahead  🙂

Thanks for visiting today!
